Doug Karr Presentation
Last night we had a presenter in our CIT 499 class. Doug Karr and he’s from Compendium Blogware. Doug’s title is Vice President of Blogging Evangelism. What a title huh? Doug gave a very informative presentation on lots of different emerging technologies that are starting to come to the fore front. He spoke about cloud computing and what that means. I thought it was very interesting to hear him talk about how everything including networks etc. are entering the virtual realm. He also talked about social networking and what it can mean for a company. Just by creating a company blog and having a high enough rating with Google you can generate a lot of exposure for your company. My company is very interested in it’s E-Business. I can see how creating a blog for the E-Business department could really generate some additional hits.
Doug also spoke about software as a service. This definitely appears to be the way the industry is going in terms of software development. Doug said that he already perceives installed software to be somewhat obsolete. I agree with Doug on this. Software as a service provides many more opportunities for software companies to cut costs on deployment methodologies.
Doug also spoke about SmallerIndiana.com which is a social networking site for Hoosiers. I actually signed up myself today. I can see some benefit to being a member of this group especially from a professional standpoint. It’s like having a giant rolodex of Indiana professionals.
Doug proved to be a very knowledgable presenter. I’m definitely plan on keeping in touch with him and using him as a resource for emerging technologies.
